Tinker Time Drop-In

The Tinker Time Drop-In Program is a key offering from the Greenfield CSW, designed to provide a safe, welcoming, and culturally inclusive environment for youth and families in South Monterey County. The program encourages exploration and creativity through fun, hands-on science activities tailored to different ages, interests, and learning styles. With its open structure, participants choose what they want to work on and how. The program runs year-round with a flexible, drop-in format, allowing families to engage at their own pace. Best of all, it’s completely free, making it accessible to everyone in the community.

After School Program

The School Enrichment Programs at Greenfield CSW partner with local school districts to provide science learning opportunities during the school year and summer. These programs focus on helping students better understand the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) through hands-on exhibits and creative, take-home science projects that build engineering skills and scientific thinking. Activities include classroom visits, science kits, and field trips to the CSW. This year alone, over 20,000 science learning experiences have been delivered to students in Greenfield and Soledad.

Enrichment Field Trips

The Walking Field Trip Program brings K–8 students from local schools to the Greenfield Community Science Workshop for immersive, hands-on science experiences. Each day, one to three classes walk to the CSW, where students, teachers, and parents explore interactive exhibits, examine natural artifacts and bones, use microscopes, and participate in engaging science projects. Activities are closely aligned with STEM topics from the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), helping teachers extend learning back in the classroom.

Bike Garage

The Greenfield Bike Garage Program offers free repairs for bicycles, skateboards, and scooters while teaching community members basic mechanical skills. This hands-on approach promotes self-sufficiency and encourages active, sustainable transportation. The program hosts 50 sessions annually, including seven major repair events—one in each South Monterey County town: Chualar, Gonzales, Soledad, Greenfield, King City, San Ardo, and San Lucas. Over the past year, more than 660 bikes, skateboards, and scooters were restored to working condition through the program.
